Caramelized Onion & Pecan Brussels Sprouts_Christmas Dinner 2014


Christmas dinner is not complete without a serving of Brussels Sprouts.  My hubby hates them so I am always I try to find new ways to serve them.  This is dish is tried and true; I have been serving for well over 20 years.


Caramelized Onion & Pecan Brussels Sprouts
1 large onion
1 lb brussels sprouts
¼ c butter
1 c pecan pieces
1 t salt
½ t pepper

Night before dinner party:
Cut onion in half and thinly slice.
Cut Brussels sprouts in half and thinly slice.
Place vegetables in separate ziplock bags and place in fridge for 8 hours. 

Melt butter in a large frying pan over med high heat.  Add pecans and sauté for 5 mins or until toasted.  Remove from pan.  Add onion and cook 15 mins or until creamy coloured.  Add pecans and Brussels sprouts and cook about 3 minutes or until heated through.  Add salt & pepper and serve. 

Serves 8.
